Toto neobyčejné holandské plemeno se dá snadno vycvičit, je také přizpůsobivější životu ve městě a mnohem citlivější než československý vlčák. Částečně je to asi ovlivněno delší dobou, po kterou probíhalo šlechtění, i tím, že kanadští vlci jsou zvyklí žít ve smečce spíše než samostatně lovící karpatský vlk. I toto plemeno projevuje vlčí obezřetnost, ale stejně jako jeho československý protějšek může být plachý.
